We invite you to browse through this website which aims to help you discover the research themes and skills of the laboratory. You will also find useful information about the unit, its research activities, and its scientific life.

Created in 1986, the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM) is a multidisciplinary research unit of about 90 people, recognized at the national level and in the international scientific community, with its own identity and strong scientific expertise and know-how located at the confluence of engineering sciences, physics, and chemistry. The LPICM has a broad spectrum of competences which allows it to link many fundamental aspects to applications in the fields of advanced materials,

Administratively, the LPICM is a joint research unit (UMR 7647) under the dual supervision of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the École Polytechnique. The unit is attached to three CNRS institutes: the Institute of Engineering and Systems Sciences (main attachment), the Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Physics (secondary attachments).

In its internal functioning and to promote scientific exchanges, the LPICM laboratory is structured in three poles which are places of exchange and discussion.

Based on his moto From atoms and molecules to devices and beyond” The LPICM aims to promote research with high social impact. It focuses on 4 objectives:

All this research is possible thanks to the support of the support groups which are the backbone of our functioning:
